Elins Eagles-Smith Gallery is pleased to present a survey of urban scenes and landscapes by California painter Joe Draegert.  A native of Kansas City, Draegert has been involved in the California art scene for over three decades.  He attended the MFA program at the University of California, Davis where he studied with such eminent names as Wayne Thiebaud, Roland Petersen, and Charles Griffin Farr.

Draegert's paintings and pastels are characterized by an enhanced division of space and a mannered foreshortening of perspective.  His rigorously structured compositions incorporate highly saturated colors and interlocking geometric forms in a manner reminiscent of his mentor at UC Davis: Roland Petersen.  The influence of Wayne Thiebaud, to whom Draegert was a teaching assistant, is also evident in the latter’s simplification of objects into basic formal units and the pressing of these forward into the picture plane.
