Ricardo Mazal    Ricardo Mazal - paper     Ricardo Mazal: Kora Series

December 2, 2010 - January 15, 2011
December 2, 2010; 5:30-7:30pm
Ricardo Mazal’s most recent body of work is born out of his journey to the sky burials of Tibet’s holiest summit, Mount Kailash. Inspired by his environment, he explores the passage of time and the mental registration of images-painting the prayer flags, the mountains, and the colors of the landscape. The artist abstracts these concrete objects as if to suggest the fading of images and the evolution of memories over time. The result is a beautifully orchestrated body of work that not only includes the viewer on Mazal’s own journey through Tibet, but also guides the viewer on a visceral journey of their own.

Born in Mexico City in 1950, Mazal moved to Barcelona in 1986 and worked there until his 1990 move to New York where he currently works and splits his time between New York and Santa Fe. Mazal’s work is hown throughout the United States and internationally and his work is in many permanent collections including the Scottsdale Museum of Art, Deutsche Bank in New York and Germany, and the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Monterrey in Monterrey, NL, Mexico.
