Biography

Elins Eagles Smith Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition featuring Carol Elkovich.Recalling views of aerial landscape, the work addresses an obscure space amid perceived boundaries contrasting with continuity. The paintings, on layered planes of wood, contain elements of relief sculpture that create shadow play between the substance of dimensional material and illusionary skins of paint. The loose abstract color fields, textures and layers of pigment repeatedly onto the tectonic relationship of forms, evokes time passing. The dimensional and illusionary space of her paintings, are contrasted with the low, but tangible, sculptural relief. The works and titles are influenced from Japanese Haiku poems by sixteenth century poet and painter, Buson.

Carol Elkovich is a Bay Area painter and is also Professor at California College of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is included in numerous private and corporate collections.
